An afternoon of two very different local sounds. What Else Is There? bring original songs of stripped-back, close-harmonised vocals and piano — with the odd fresh take on a jazzy or soulful cover. Their material is about a life thoroughly lived; the vocals are strong, the melodies unexpectedly hooky, and the songs land as if they were written about the listener’s own life.
They share the bill with The Hot Club of Inverness, a local gypsy jazz group inspired by Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli and the swing era. Violin, guitars and double bass deliver a lively mix of gypsy jazz standards, swing tunes and a few favourites given the Hot Club treatment.
A chance to sit, listen and enjoy two thoughtful, accomplished Highlands acts in one room.
